  • A Historic Church - Making History

Mount Olive African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church was established in 1887. The church built in 1922 was one of the most significant projects from pioneer African American builder and designer Richard L. Brown who lived nearby in East Jacksonville. Brown went on to serve two consecutive terms in the Florida House of Representatives. Brown also purchased land in the same area and later deeded part of it to the Duval County School Board for the construction of an elementary school that was named in his honor.
